These files are extracted versions of the disc images from WUD or WUX files. Since WUD files are so large, this method is not recommended. When using an emulator such as Cemu, WUD files can also be used, although they require the title's individual title key as well as the Wii U's keys. To keep the disc image, its recommended to compress into a WUX and store it, decompressing as needed. However, once WUD files are extracted, the resulting files can no longer be placed back into the WUD format. To use, WUX files must first be decompressed back into WUD format. WUD/WUX files can be extracted into encrypted NUS files using a Wii U disc extractor such as wud2app. This process is also reversible, and the same WudCompress program can decompress the WUX back into a WUD, maintaining the same benefits. A WUX file is significantly smaller, saving a large amount of storage space. However, WUD files can be compressed into WUX files using WudCompress. These come in the WUD format, and are 23.3 GB in size. They can be acquires by using disc dumper app such as wudd from method 1. The disc images are simply raw dumps of the entire disc, with no modifications, making them the best formats for pure preservation, as they are the most accurate. Before beginning to dump games, read about which file format will be most compatible with the desired use. Most can be converted between each other, although some are one-way conversions. ![]() There are a variety of file formats that Wii U games can be dumped as, each with their own uses, and each with their own method of being dumped.

![]() Even better than the original Flesh song, is the remix: Future Freestyle Remix, somehow it’s just reaching incredible new highs, if there is only one song you want to listen to of Curtis’, it needs to be Flesh and it should be the remix. It’s sensual, sexual, desirable and just perfect. I cannot think of enough superlatives for it, I just love it, it’s not just my favourite song from the album, but it’s one of my favourite songs full stop. ![]() Superhero falls in to the theme around his fans and wanting to be a superhero in his field, as a song, it’s good, but nothing extraordinary. Prior to RA’s release, Curtis released two singles: Flesh and Superhero. Curtis is brilliant at really bringing his fans in to his music, sharing it with them and thereby giving himself supporters which will stick with him to the end. Where 8bit Heart had the one main story running through it, RA has I would say two main themes running throughout: a very painful breakup, and his love for his fans- the Robot Army and what else he wants to achieve, with them at his side. RA is 8bit Heart on steroids, everything is bigger, more emotional and stronger. Other highlights on this album for me include: 8bit Heart (just wow with his voice), Super Psycho Love and Brainwash.Īfter 8Bit Heart, Curtis released on iTunes and other digital outlets the first album consumers had to pay for: RA, which I believe stands for Robot Army (the name of his supporters). The vocal interludes all have an intention and push the story on, plus they’re very interesting, especially with ‘The Neverending Elevator’ to hear some of the making of the album, the enthusiasm which Curtis exudes is really palpable here, making the listener in turn excited to hear the second part of ‘8bit Heart’. Curtis’ voice is fantastically diverse, reaching those really high notes to getting pretty low too, it would be fascinating to hear him singing some other genres, jazz for instance, to see just how far he can push his voice. It’s rare these days that you need to listen to an album in order to get the full meaning, but with this one you do, which makes it just that little bit more lovely. Whilst ‘Diablo’ is my stand out track, there are no bad tracks on here. What makes this album quite cool is that there is a story that goes throughout this album about the boy robot from the first to last track with a nice ending to it. The beat and the lyrics will be locked in your head for days and the story about getting over someone and telling them while you are- it’s just brilliant. The must listen, must have track here I would say is ‘Diablo’. This extensive review will go through his 2 solo albums plus remix album and the Wrathschild singles.Ĭurtis’ debut album is a gorgeous pop filled electronica story introducing the Boy Robot out to find love in the world of humanity. All of this has been independent, and you know what? It sounds a lot better than a lot of the stuff coming from the record labels.Ĭurtis has really built up his social media base and made a huge success for himself, hell, he’s showing off now by getting his book ‘Boy Robot’ published soon too. ![]() A remix album of his debut 8bit Heart has also been released as Super 8-Bit Heart in 2016. A collaboration has since happened to create a duo: Wrathschild, which have released two singles and an album. Half a million downloads later he released his second album RA which he charged for on iTunes and which debuted at number 20 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums Chart with only publicity on social media, hands-down incredible. He wanted a career in music so he made his own album and posted it online for free, forever: 8bit Heart. Simon Curtis aka the Boy Robot is someone whom, no matter what you may think of his music, you can’t help respecting for his sheer defiance of people saying no.

As such, Aerofly FS 2 is a much improved game over its predecessors and has shown that the developers have learned a lot with each game. Aerofly FS 2 may be a bit basic in presentation and execution, but it is highly enjoyable for newcomers, and veterans of flight sims alike.Īs with any good flight simulator, there’s a flight school to teach you the ropes. I could go on and on about the omakase, about the yellowtail, the chad, the revelatory yellow clam, the sea eel, the way each omakase settles into an easy, relaxed groove. The uni here has been consistently extraordinary, so pure and fresh, it tastes like cold, slippery caramel. “But trust me on this one.”Īnd so he picks off a small piece of the roe with his chopsticks and tentatively takes it to his lips. “I think we’ve all had a bad experience with uni,” I say. “I don’t know about this one,” he says nervously. One evening at dinner, we’re presented with sea urchin roe, and the guy I’m with balks. The quick blast of fire has caramelized the fish without fully cooking it, and as I pop it into it my mouth, I bite into a delicate, unexpected crunch of gray sea salt. But before we can ask, we realize the dish is intended for us. “I don’t know what he’s making, but we should ask for some of that,” my friend says, reading my mind. The air in front of us gushes with the scent of cotton candy. One day I’m sitting at the counter with a friend and we’re watching as the chef douses a couple of pieces of … something, we can’t tell what, with soy sauce and places them into a cast-iron pan and then sets the pan ablaze. I’ve tasted bluefin tuna belly that melts on my tongue even before I begin to chew. I’ve marveled over raw scallops that, if I had tasted them with my eyes shut, I would have sworn I was eating butter. I’ve returned for the omakase and enjoyed slight variations each time. Purplish slivers of kanpachi arrive topped with yuzu kosho, a paste-like chutney made of sour citrus zest and green chilies. It’s the ultimate contrast, the sensuality of the flesh playing against the brutal decadence of the hot, crunchy heads filled with creamy tomalley. And just as we’ve devoured the tails, the heads arrive deep-fried to a crisp, their big black eyeballs staring blankly through a thin layer of tempura. The taste is clean and sweet and fatty all at once. Undressed and completely naked, every supple curve and indention of the flesh is stunning, almost like looking at a grapefruit segment that’s been removed from its casing. The tails of live sweet shrimp are stripped of their protective armor and glazed with a fine gossamer of soy. It is topped with pickled scallion and ginger and a single brushstroke of soy sauce, and I cannot imagine a more perfect bite. ![]() As I bring the plate toward me, the mackerel’s iridescent skin shimmers between silver and blue, like one of those pictures that changes shapes depending on the angle at which you view it. “Aji,” says the chef as he’s handing over another piece of nigiri. The sea bass has a more pronounced salinity than the halibut. Although the tables around the dining room are set with soy sauce, there isn’t a single bottle at the sushi counter. Everything handed to me is meant to be consumed within seconds exactly as it is. ![]() The idea is that I’m not supposed to dip anything into soy sauce or muck anything up with wasabi. It’s topped with a few drops of what I presume might be shishito pepper oil. Next up is sea bass, a pinkish pearl essence of flesh, delicately crosshatched with a dozen meticulous knife marks. It tastes like fresh tears, and with this one bite, I know I’m in for an extraordinary ride. It’s the perfect size for a single, civilized mouthful. It’s topped with a single fleck of orange and red relish of some sort. The flesh is vaguely translucent on one end, fading to an opaque white on the other. The glistening sliver of halibut clings to an equally proportioned lump of rice. “Halibut fin,” the chef says, timidly, handing two small plates across the counter, each sporting a single piece of nigiri sushi. Almost immediately after this, the first course arrives. “Pickled” is perhaps too strong of a word for these cucumbers, though, which taste not of vinegar but of sake. It’s a bowl of lightly pickled cucumber slices. Within seconds of our sitting down, the first dish arrives. “The counter is for omakase only,” she says, apologetically. The hostess gives us one of those polite little bows. “Can we sit there?” I ask, pointing to the counter. When I originally stop in for lunch, the dining room is thronged, yet strangely no one is sitting at the sushi counter. Omakase is a simple word with a rather profound meaning that humbly translates to, “I trust and respect you. ![]() Omakase is that tradition of putting yourself in the hands of the sushi chef, letting him prepare whatever he desires. We had all sorts of tweaks to make sure we weren’t simply stressing the player out.” “Some other touches we added (included) restarting from a slightly easier difficulty after the player slips up and gets caught, or occasionally sending the pursuing ghosts off course, back to their positions to give the player some room to breathe. “We introduced an AI-like algorithm that sent the ghosts to surround Pac-Man from all sides,” Iwatani said. Named Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde, they each have a “personality” determining their strategy. He did, however, spend months programming the ghosts’ behavior. Unfortunately, at that point, the game ran out of memory and could no longer draw a complete board. If you go off of your system for even a second, it creates total chaos on the board.”īilly Mitchell reached the final level of "Pac-Man" in 1999. “The hardest part is to sit there and continually remain focused, not allowing distractions. “It took between five to six hours,” said Billy Mitchell, who became the first person to achieve a perfect game in 1999, and still one of only a handful in the world to ever do so. That’s why it took nearly 20 years for anyone to complete a perfect game of “Pac-Man” – finishing with no lives lost and the maximum number of points from each level. However, that doesn’t mean that Pac-Man is an easy game: It is, in fact, fiendishly difficult in a way that only classic arcade games designed to gobble up quarters can be. Unusually, the game doesn’t require players to press any buttons at all (except to start a one-player or two-player game), and the control system instead uses a single joystick. The appeal of “Pac-Man” lies, perhaps, in its simplicity. Paola Antonelli, senior curator of architecture and design at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) plays "Pac-Man" at an exhibition preview in 2013. “And all of a sudden, we found a mascot – the first character in video games that existed not just in the artwork, but in the game itself. “Here comes this game that’s brightly colored and centered around a character that really doesn’t have a gender,” he said. It was also one of the very first games in the “maze” genre.īut most importantly, it had a defined main character, which was unheard of at the time according to Chris Melissinos, a video game historian and curator of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s 2012 exhibition “The Art of Video Games.” It featured the first “power-up” – the big pill that made ghosts vulnerable – and the first cut scenes, the small animated sequences between one level and the next. “Pac-Man” pioneered a number of innovations in gameplay and game design. Although the titular character did somewhat resemble a hockey puck, the game’s American distributor, Midway, feared that kids would scrape off the marquee, changing the “P” to an “F.” After its name was changed, the game became an instant hit, with nearly 300,000 units sold worldwide from 1981 to 1987. When the game was imported into the US, however, the name “PuckMan” was deemed inappropriate. You know, without actually needing any quarters.Game designer named Toru Iwatani created "Pac-Man" in 1980. And we can only hope you find using Google at least a quarter as enjoyable as eating dots and chasing ghosts. ![]() There’s a light-hearted, human touch to both of them. They’re both deceptively straightforward, carefully hiding their complexity under the hood. PAC-MAN seems like a natural fit for the Google homepage. PAC-MAN joins the party and you can play together with someone else (PAC-MAN is controlled with arrow keys or by clicking on the maze, Ms. We also added a little easter egg: if you throw in another coin, Ms. Google doodler Ryan Germick and I made sure to include PAC-MAN’s original game logic, graphics and sounds, bring back ghosts’ individual personalities, and even recreate original bugs from this 1980’s masterpiece. To play the game, go to during the next 48 hours (because it’s too cool to keep for just one day) and either press the “Insert Coin” button or just wait for a few seconds. Today, on PAC-MAN’s 30th birthday, you can rediscover some of your 8-bit memories-or meet PAC-MAN for the first time-through our first-ever playable Google doodle. During the heyday of space shooters, Tōru Iwatani’s creation stood out as one of the first video games aimed at a broader audience, with a cute story of pizza-shaped character gobbling dots in a maze, colorful (literally!) characters, friendly design, very little violence and everlasting fun. One of my favorites was PAC-MAN, whose popularity transcended the geopolitical barriers of that time. For me, that meant summer trips through Poland’s coastal cities with their seasonal arcade parlors peeking inside cabinets to learn programming and engineering secrets and-of course-free games! When I was growing up, my dad had the best job I could possibly imagine: he was an arcade game and pinball technician. |
